Did you know that February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month? Relationships can be challenging. Sometimes people aren’t even aware that their relationship is unhealthy. Check out the information below to see how your relationship measures up. TeenCentral is talking about healthy relationships and warning signs of abuse.
 
Do you have a healthy relationship? How many of the following signs of health can you say yes to?
 
~You feel physically and emotionally safe around your partner.
~You feel respected by your partner.
~You communicate openly with each other if there are problems in your relationship.
~You feel you can be honest with your partner and you feel that they are honest with you.
~You feel you can be yourself around your partner.
~Your partner gives you space to spend time doing things that you like to do.
~Your partner gives you space to spend time with others in your life that care about you, like friends and family.
~Your partner doesn’t pressure you to do things that you don’t want to do, or pressure you sexually.
 
Do you have warning signs of abuse in your relationship? How many of the following risk indicators would you say yes to?
 
~Your partner threatens you or hurts you verbally or physically.
~Your partner humiliates you, or puts you down when alone or in front of others.
~You feel the need to hide things or you feel like you can’t talk openly about problems in your relationship.
~You cannot trust your partner, or feel you have to lie to them or that they lie to you.
~Your partner tries to control you- tells you what to say or do, what to wear or how to act.
~Your partner does not want you to spend time doing the things that you like to do and tries to stop you or makes you feel guilty when you do.
~Your partner tries to isolate you by limiting or controlling the amount of time you spend with your friends or family.
~You feel like your partner pressures you to do things you don’t want to do or pressures you sexually.
